Philippa Ruth Miller - known to her friends as Pippa - was born in Oulton Broad in 1905. She began painting and writing about the Broadlands as a teenager before going to the Lowestoft School of Art.

Her work 'An Artist's War' was exhibited in Norwich Cathedral in January 2005 to mark her centenary, and a second exhibition was shown in August 2005 and featured her remarkable Broadland watercolours which were painted primarily in the first half of the last century.
